Hello Everyone,
My name is Pieter and from Holland. I would like to introduce my new project: 1:14 Volvo EC480EL (new type). Just received the first aluminium lasercut parts for the boom and dipper arm. At the moment I'm drawing the upper part of the bagger (cabin, hood etc.). The idea is to built two simultaneously.
Thank you!

Hallo Pieter
Super Projekt da werde ich mal drannbleiben.

Hello again,
First steps have been taken, the right boom side is bend. Pleased with the fitting.
Pieter_dj
Guten Abend,
A few extra things have been done on the boom, attached the boom cilinder pivot points and some other minor things. Hope to gain some more progress later this week.
Ps. I understand and can read Deutsch, but I can't write it properly ;-)

Hallo Pieter,
sehr schön was Du da baust! Den Arm aus Aluminium zu bauen finde ich super, das spart Gewicht!
Die hydraulischen Zylinder hast Du selber gebaut nehme ich an?

Hallo Christian,
Thank you! I really like to build in aluminum, it's very strong if you construct it correctly. The cilinder is from RC4WD's 4200 excavator. Their hardware is very strong and reliable (did some heavy testing). Would have loved to build the cilinder myself, but I don't have a lathe and skills ;-)
Best regards Pieter

It's going to look like a boom!

Hi Pieter,
very nice work! I know your problem, I do not have a lathe either...
But I think I´m gonna change that soon
And I agree with the aluminium, if you are building in 1:14 scale it offers lots of advantages, i´m working with it every day, even the boom of the cranes from Uwe here in the Forum are made of Aluminium and he´s even building in 1:12, it will be strong enough if it´s -like you say- build correctly.
Go on, I love to see your progress here!
Cheers from Austria!

Hallo Christian and Kalle,
Thank you for the compliments!
Tonight I installed the top plating and fitted the hinge points for the dipper arm. So far so good. Hopefully I can finish the boom this week to start with the dipper itself.
Have a nice evening!

Good morning Pieter and Volks,
a late-time-answer deserves an early reply!
Looking forward to write many compliments to this project! I hope that I very soon can start my own thread here, but I was scared, i´m a completely nut when it comes to electronics
anyway a good friend of mine has declared yesterday to help me out, YES!!
Go on Pieter, it´s a wonderful project! Happy working, my god, i´m late, i have to go!!

Hey Pieter,
nice project and nice to see you making good progress. Always keep us updated!

Evening!
A little update of the hinge point details I worked on. Obviously the screws will disappear with filler and paint in a later stadium.
Pieter_dj
Good evening,
Again a little update. The underside plating of the boom is done and the two hinge points are ready. Only a little top and end plate to go before I will screw and glue it together permanently.
Looking forward to start with the dipper arm.

Evening!
After a short hiatus due work I started to work on the dipper arm. Just drilling, tapping and test-fitting at the moment.
Stay tuned ;-)

Hi Pieter!
Nice work!!
I have one question about the screws, you said they will obviously disappear after filling and painting, of course they will but:
Do you use screw glue before painting? I´m asking because it would be awful when screws getting loose and the filler with the paint popping out...
Maybe it´s a silly question, i don´t know if force-moments can loosen the screws when working with the excavator...?!

Hello!
Good question. I was planning to glue all the screws with UHU end fest 300 and some major parts as well. I don't have access to a (tig) welder, so screwing it together was the way to go. I also thought about 3D printing, but I leave that for the counter weight and some other parts.

Good Evening,
Again some work on the dipper arm. In the meanwhile I'm also drawing the construction for the bodywork. Slowly but surely.
Cheers!

Good evening again,
Another evening with a bit of progress. The dipper arm is almost finish, only the top-plating and everything can be glued together. Ver pleased with the protection strips on the inside of the dipper arm. Next up is the boom connection en base chassis.
Happy building!
Pieter
