What type of conversion is this going to be?
If you use the original plastic for structural components (arm, knuckle, A-block), you probably can save some money and use the standard plastic tracks.
ari
I am planning to use only upper plastic parts eg. cabin etc. Rest (arm, knuckle, A-block) will be from aluminium.

In that case, the Veroma track is a good option.
They have one ugly cheap track and one good-looking more expensive track. Both would be suitable in strength for an excavator the size of the Bruder.
You can see the Veroma parts used in a build here:

The Veroma tracks are great, but you need smaler sprocket wheels. The wheels from Veroma are much to huge (diameter).

Any idea where to get dimensions of Veroma sprocket so that I can draw one with less teeth?

Can someone who have Bruder Cat tell me what is distance between red lines in picture
Marcel2612
Including the tracks the distance amounts about 6cm.

Hi Ari,
it`s easier to design your conversion when you have the Bruder excavator in front of you! My advice to you is get one
Concerning the sprocket wheels, you can use other tracks from Ingo.P. He uses sprocktes from Maedler if I`m not totally wrong. Ask him or Marcel, he uses the same tracks. That`s much easier than drawing new ones.

Bruder is coming, it will just take couple of weeks to get. I am asking the dimension because I am trying to find suitable sprocktes and tracks for conversion and it seems that comparing 1:1 all sprocktes are too big.
And I already sent the question related tracks and sprocket wheel to Ingo.P but not yet get any answer.

I had the same problem with the size of the sprockets, that`s why I now build a bigger one

I like to keep 1:16 scale because other models I have. If I don't find tracks and sprocets I have to do same but in 1:16 scale eg Cat 345D

They should be right, but you need to get other guide wheels, track roller and top roller. Do you have a turning center?

I have a mill and my brother-in-law owns lathe so that is not a problem.

What kind of remote controller could be suitable for excavator. I am not able buy expensive one, I am using cheap 2,4 GHz units in my other models but in this case I don't have any idea how to solve controlling of the tracks.
Any help?

The cheapest radio with two sliders I know of is the FC-16 Boat&Truck, which is not exactly cheap and not natively 2.4GHz.
I would get a Turnigy 9x v2 and modify the replace the rotational potentiometers with sliders or a PlayStation Thumbstick, if you can't live with the rotational pots.
ari
Hi,
Thanks for the answer. This might be stupid question but can I replace rotational potentiometers with any sliding potentiometer (eg Futaba sliders)?
